Why do we want to help underprivileged children go to school?

The Kebaso Foundation is helping underprivileged children in communities around us, particularly those in Kenya,to get an education they desperately need to support their families and communities. We believe that education is the key to better health, ending poverty,and achieving better socio-economic and political stability for all.

How are you going to help?

We will provide scholarships for deserving students who have demonstrated academic excellence. Our goal is to provide financial support for students with no other means of funding their studies.Our programs can also augment existing programs to foster better student education outcomes.

What does the Kebaso Foundation offer?

Kebaso offers scholarships to students from low-income families through our scholarship program. The foundation assists students who cannot pay tuition fees at public schools or private schools. Furthermore, we also support graduating high school and college students through our mentorship programs and job placement opportunities. Mentorships are offered to outstanding students who need extra guidance to succeed in life.

Who are the beneficiaries?

Our target group is students from low-income households. We focus on primary school students going into high school and those who qualify to go to high school/college but lack the funds to pursue their dreams. Students who qualify for our scholarship program include those who: 

• Are orphans or wards of the state; 
• Abandoned by their parents due to lack of parental care; 
• Are victims of abuse or neglect; 
• Are from rural areas; 
• Are from urban slums; 
• Are from single-parent homes;

How is Kebaso Foundation funded?

Kebaso Foundation is funded by charitable donations from institutions/companies or individuals.

Must you be a Kenyan to receive a scholarship or other services the Kebaso Foundation funded?

No. You don’t need to be a Kenyan national to receive a scholarship from us. However, if you wish to receive a scholarship,you must meet the following criteria: 

- Sign a contract showing that you are up for the education challenge.
- Be able to attend classes regularly.
- Have a minimum mean grade of B in High School/college.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities.
- Maintain a clean record.
- Complete your application form online.

How much of my donation do you spend on your mission?

At the moment, our team is very small and as founders we do not draw salaries from the funds. However, since we can't do all the work ourselves, we do pay some local representatives who go out to interview and support our students.

Are the donations TAX Deductible?

Yes, Kebaso Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization and all donations no matter the amount are tax deductible.

How will I know the impact of my donation?

Once you become a donor, you will start receiving newsletters to update you on what we are doing and the impact your donations are making. In some cases you will also get to hear directly from the people whose lives you are impacting

How do I become a mentor?

The process of becoming a mentor is very simple and we try to get you started in no time. Simply complete the application form, once we've reviewed the application, one of our representatives will reach out to you to discuss the nest steps.

Is mentor paid?

Not at the moment, we are hoping to reach out people who are passionate about helping others out of poverty. We know that you are busy, that's why we only require bare minimum resources from you. The students really appreciate your time and help!

How long does the mentorship application process take?

Mentors are an important part of what we do and we're excited when we see an application. Our goal is to quickly get you started as soon as possible.

Do I get to choose which student to mentor?

We take pride in marching great mentors to good students. Once you've been accepted into our program, we will present you with a few choices and you can choose which student or students you want to mentor.

Can I quit anytime I want?

The Kebaso Foundation is not only offering sponsorships or mentoring to students in need. We are also trying to rewrite and rewire what most of our students have been subjected to and one of them is adults quitting on them and leaving them to fend for themselves.

One of our requirements is commitment and consistency. We are looking for mentors who are able to see the program through. But like everything else, there are exceptions - Please reach out and we can talk about it if you need special accommodations.

How do I become an Employer Partner?

The application process is simple, simply complete a short application form - tell us what type of positions you are offering and we will take care of the rest.

Do we have to pay the students?

Most of the students are coming from very poor families and although the skills are more important at this stage, we would like you to consider paying the students.

How many students can I employ at the same time?

If you have jobs, we have students for you. Let us know how many and we will fill them up in no time.

Who is an Employer partner?

An employer partner is a business or organization that believes in our mission and the problems we are trying to solve. This partner is willing to take our graduating students straight from college and give them their first shot at the workforce. The employer partner must also be willing to continue providing training and mentorship to these students.
